Maken eyes 25 medals in 2020
Sports Minister Ajay Maken is more than satisfied with India's best-ever medal haul at an Olympics, and has predicted 25 medals in the 2020 Games
India improved on their Beijing Games’ performance (three medals) with six medals, two silver (Sushil Kumar — wrestling, Vijay Kumar — shooting) and four bronze (Saina Nehwal — badminton, Gagan Narang — shooting, Yogeshwar Dutt — wrestling and Mary Kom — boxing) in London.
“If you compare India’s past performance, I think this is India’s best Olympics so far we have ever had. We have improved on all counts,” Maken told an Indian news channel during a talk show.
“By 2020 we can get 25 medals, and this is a achievable target. Out of it, it can be 5 or 10 golds. We cannot specify the number of gold,” he added. —
