Pune: After a tiff broke out between two Pune-based friends over an alleged financial dispute related to land, one of them attacked the other with acid on Monday. However, an onlooker immediately rushed the 60-year-old victim to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
According to the police, the victim has been identified as Bharat Kandu Sabale, a former principal of Range Hill Secondary School and resident of Avdhut Arcade near Sun City on Sinhagad road. The Swargate police have registered a case against accused Manoj Chavan, a resident of Dhankawadi.
Speaking to mid-day, Faruk Kazi, senior inspector of Swargate police station, said, "Bharat and Manoj are friends and even their families know about it. While Bharat is a former school principal, Manoj works as a clerk in Pune Municipal Corporation’s regional office. According to the witness, on the day of the incident they met each other at Sarasbaug."
He further said, "The witness noticed that both of them were abusing each other when Manoj took out a bottle of acid and flung it at Bharat. He immediately fled the spot, while the witness took the victim to hospital. He has suffered injuries on the right side of his body, face, hands and chest. The reason behind the incident is still unclear, but most likely it’s the fallout of a financial dispute. Manoj is currently absconding, but he will be arrested soon."
