Officials of the Cuffe Parade police station yesterday arrested a man for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter. Officials said the incident came to light after the girl was admitted to a hospital after she drank phenyl over an argument with her brother.


A resident of Dr Ambedkar Nagar in Cuffe Parade, the minor drank phenyl after she had an argument with her elder brother and was rushed to St George Hospital. While treating her, doctors noticed bleeding from the girl’s private parts and inquired with her about the reason.

“She then informed the doctors that her stepfather had been forcing himself upon her for the last one year,” a police official said.


The accused was arrested and booked under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

“The girl’s father washes clothes at dhobi ghat and had threatened her of dire consequences if she told anyone about the rape. He has been remanded in police custody till 17,” said the official. u00a0
