The victim, a resident of Cheetah Camp in Trombay, works as a salesgirl at a clothes store at Sindhi Camp in Chembur.
On December 30 at 8.30 am, while she was on her way to a shop to purchase some food, the four accused approached her and passed lewd comments at her.

Terrified by the incident, she went inside her store and informed her friend Azaruddin Sayyed (27) of the incident. Sayyed stepped out to confront the men, but the accused thrashed him and escaped.

Following the incident, the victim along with her parents approached the police on December 31, and a case was registered under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 509 of the IPC at RCF police station.

According to the police, Singh and his friends are habitual offenders, and notorious for misbehaving with girls walking through the busy lane. Cops said that most of the victims do not approach the police to register a case against them, adding that the police cannot do anything if victims don’t file a complaint. Singh was produced in court, but later released on bail. u00a0
