Malegaon (Nashik): A court in Nashik has awarded life imprisonment to a man for raping a 10-year-old tribal girl in 2011.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Shirish Gadge on Wednesday sentenced Vijay Sudam Wagh to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 2.26 lakh on him for raping the minor girl on December 19, 2011, at Anandpur Shivar locality near Malegaon-Askheda road of Malegaon taluka in Nashik district.

According to police, the girl was going to an agricultural field to hand over a tiffin to her grandfather, when the accused came from behind, shut her mouth and took her to a nearby river bank where he raped her.
Jaykheda Police had registered an offence of rape and arrested Wagh the next day of the incident. The court examined 10 witnesses before pronouncing the accused guilty and awarding him life sentence.
