A Mangalore-bound passenger was apprehended by the CISF at the airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle gold biscuits worth about Rs 7 lakh, an official said today.

The incident took place on February 17 when the personnel of the security force detected a metal-like object in the wallet of S Jamal during frisking and he was subsequently taken for detailed checking. "During the detailed check, two gold biscuits (2234 grams in weight) was recovered from the passenger. He could not furnish valid documents for carrying the yellow metal.
"The Mangalore-bound passenger and the seized 2 gold biscuits were then handed over to Customs department officials at the airport," a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson said. The value of the seized gold is estimated to be Rs 7 lakh, he said.
