Los Angeles: Adi Lederman, a former contestant of Israel’s version of American Idol, has been jailed for leaking singing sensation Madonna’s album online.

Lederman, 39, is sentenced to 14 months in prison along with a fine of $4000, after he confessed to computer trespassing and infringement of privacy and property rights, reported an entertainment portal.

“The ease with which crimes such as this can be committed by those who have skills in the field, such as the accused, require an appropriate punitive response that has a deterrent and uncompromising message,” said a spokesperson for Tel Aviv Court.

Last December, the unfinished tracks of Madonna’s album Rebel Heart were leaked before the official release. Lederman was arrested a month later, as police suspected him of selling songs he had procured through hacking.

“I am profoundly grateful to the FBI, the Israeli Police investigators and anyone else who helped lead to the arrest of this hacker. I deeply appreciate my fans who have provided us with pertinent information and continue to do so regarding leaks of my music. Like any citizen, I have the right to privacy,” said Madonna, reacting to the court’s verdict.

Rebel Heart was officially released on March 6, 2015.
