Man kidnaps brother-in-law (9) to force wife to return home

Alcoholic husband Jaffar Maniar couldn’t bear to see his wife leave him and took the extreme step of kidnapping his nine-year-old brother-in-law, Sameer Khan, as leverage to lure his wife to return home. Maniar kidnapped Sameer from his Mulund home on Friday but afraid of getting caught by the cops, he dropped him off at his residence the very next day.

According to police officials, the accused had a big tiff with his wife, Shabnam, on Thursday following which his wife left his Ghansoli residence and went to her parents’ house.

The police claim that the accused had threatened her while she was leaving that if she left, he would kidnap her brother.u00a0“Later on Friday morning the accused kidnapped the boy, while telling him that he would be taking him to a garden,” said an officer from Mulund police station.

The next day, the victim’s family filed a complaint at the police station after which an FIR was registered. In the FIR, Shabnam informed that her husband is the kidnapper as he had called her the previous day and threatened that until she returns home, he wouldn’t release her brother.

“However, Shabnam ignored his threats as she assumed that he would leave him in sometime but when he didn’t let Sameer go until the next day, they came to the police station and registered a complaint,” said a police officer. The police officials immediately tracked his location through his CDR and dispatched a team to Surat along with his wife.

“The accused kept Sameer in his sister’s house and after he learnt that the cops had been informed, he came to Mulund along with boy. He then called the boy’s family and let the boy go,” added the police officer.

The victim’s family resides at Amar Nagar in Mulund. Although the boy has been rescued, the police are still hunting for the accused. Maniar has been booked for kidnapping.
