A 10-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped in Andheri on Saturday evening. The accused, who is yet to be identified, is still at large and the police have launched a massive manhunt for him. The police have made a sketch of the accused on the basis of the description provided by the young girl. The man is said to be in his 30s.

Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Chavan of DN Nagar police station said, “We have registered a case under Section 376 for rape and Section 363 for kidnapping a minor. The accused touched the girl’s private parts and escaped.”

He added, “Based on the description provided by the girl, we have made a sketch of the accused. We have formed several teams to nab the accused. We are on the right track and hope to arrest the accused soon.” The child, who is a school student, was playing near her house. An unidentified man approached her, saying he was her father’s friend and needed his number. He then lured her with a chocolate and took her behind the building near the pump house. There, he threatened the child and sexually assaulted her.

The girl also said that the man was a stranger. Last week, MiD DAY had reported that an unidentified one-eyed man has been taking young girls to isolated spots in the western suburbs and molesting them (‘Watch out for one-eyed child molester in western suburbs’, January 9). Cops are investigating the case to see if the same serial molester was responsible for this rape.
