A 42-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 75-year-old mother to death before attempting suicide over a family dispute, police said here today.
Satnam Singh stabbed his mother Krishani to death in their house at nearby village Bhullarai last night, Phagwara SP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said.
Satnam also tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself with the same knife, Khakh said.

He was rushed to hospital where he was said to be out of danger, the SP said.

A case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC was registered against Satnam on a complaint by his father Parkash Ram.
"A separate case for attempting suicide will also be registered against Satnam," Khakh said.
The complainant alleged that Satnam had picked a fight with his mother over attending the marriage of a relative with whom he had differences.
"When his mother and other family members returned home last night, Satnam fought with her and stabbed her to death," the complainant told police.
