A 23-year-old was caught at the domestic airport terminal with an identity card granting access to a ferry flight (the President’s flight) on Friday, after he flashed it to park his car in the VIP area.

The youngster has, interestingly, tampered with the card, which is the expired identity card of his brother who, it is learnt, is employed by the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Sudhanshu Pandey, an actor who stays at Antop Hill, was caught by the security personnel at Terminal 1 (T1) around 3.30 pm. Pandey owns a BMW that has a police tag in the front and ‘Press’ written behind. “He was allowed to park in the VIP parking area near the departure gate 2 at terminal 1B, as he showed an identity card of the VVIP Security Protection Branch.

The suspicion arose on the basis of the two tags — police and press — on the car,” said a security officer who checked Pandey’s card. He was then handed over to the Airport police officials.

The card is an original identity card on which Pandey stuck his picture and ‘extended’ its validity date from September 13, 2014 to September 13, 2019. Cops said the original belongs to his brother Himanshu, who is an IB officer. The police issue such identity cards to few officers. The card mentions the purpose as Ferry Flight of India, which refers to the flights of the President and Prime Minister.

Police said Pandey was waiting for some passengers in the parking area. They were in the process of filing an FIR at the time of going to print.

The senior inspector of the Airport police station was unavailable for comment.
