Air Marshal (retd) Malik Nur Khan died Thursday after a long illness at Rawalpindi's Combined Military Hospital, reported Dawn.

Khan was commissioned in the British Indian Air Force in 1941 when he was 18 years old. He rose to become PAF's sixth commander-in-chief at the age of 42 on July 23, 1965, barely a few weeks before the war broke out between Pakistan and India.
Pakistan and India have fought three wars since their partition in 1947.
Khan had also been president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation and the Pakistan Cricket Board.
