India's Manavjit Singh Sandhu was way off the mark at the Royal Artillery Barracks on Day One of the qualification round of the men's trap event at yesterday

Manavjit, who has won medals at the Asian and Commonwealth Games, as well as World Championships in the past, finished 25th out of 34 competitors and thus his chances of making it to today’s finals seems very bleak.

After three rounds, the 35-year-old from Amritsar, who is competing in his third Olympics, finished with 70 points out of a possible 75 (24, 24 and 22).

Only the top six shooters go through to the medal round. The last two rounds will be played today.

Australia’s Michael Diamond currently leads the field with a total of 75. The Commonwealth Games champion shot 25 in all three series. Five shooters are tied with a score of 74 for second place. Seven shooters share the third spot with a total of 73 each.
