Mardy Fish continues winning streak

American Mardy Fish won his 11th consecutive ATP match yesterday defeating Serbia's Viktor Troicki 6-4, 6-3 to reach the third round of the 1.4 million-dollar ATP Washington Classic.

The 28-year-old US standout, who captured ATP titles last month at Newport and Atlanta to start the streak, has risen from 79th to 35th in the rankings and improved to 29-11 on the season.

Belgian Xavier Malisse advanced with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Frenchman Julien Benneteau. He will next face Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker or US fifth seed John Isner.

Three-time Washington winner Andy Roddick, the US second seed, will face Slovenian qualifier Grega Zemlja and Spanish third seed Fernando Verdasco will play Germany's Michael Berrer in later matches at the hardcourt event, a tune-up for the US Open which begins later this month.
