Given their impressive rankings — Maria Sharapova is World No 6 in the WTA list, while her boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov is World No 9 in the ATP charts — many would wonder why Sharapova and Dimitrov don't play mixed doubles tennis together.

In fact, the Russian hottie has played mixed doubles only once — at the 2004 US Open — where she made the quarterfinals with Max Mirnyi.

In a recent WTA All-Access Hour interaction with fans before the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Sharapova revealed just why she prefers not to play alongside her Bulgarian lover professionally, though the couple do train together occasionally.

When asked by a fan if she would prefer playing mixed doubles alongwith Dimitrov, Sharapova replied: "I would probably not play a Grand Slam mixed doubles, even though he wants to. But we'd have fun. We do in practice occasionally. But he's much better and I don't want to make myself look bad."

Incidentally, the only tournaments that offer mixed doubles are the Grand Slams and the Olympics. Since the couple belong to different nations, the Olympics is out of the question, and with Sharapova not being keen on the Slams either, it looks like the couple will never be seen on the same side of the court!
