Second seed Russian Maria Sharapova defeated another Czech in Klara Zakopalova 6-4, 6-3, firing 18 winners and breaking five times. Earlier, American seven-time grand slam-winner Venus Williams crashed out 6-4, 6-1 to German 12th seed Angelique Kerber in round two.
