MCA mulls firm action in 'champagne' issue

Mumbai under-19 cricketers reportedly spraying champagne after winning the Cooch Behar Trophy on Tuesday has not gone down well with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials. As per the rules, the minimum age for consumption of alcohol is 25 in Maharashtra.

Sources told MiD DAY that the issue will be raised strongly in the next managing committee meeting. "It was in poor taste and this has given the association a bad name. We are going to raise this issue in the managing committee meeting. We will ensure the coach, captain and manager of the team are questioned," said the source.

"We have to set the right kind of precedent. They have broken the law and should be punished," the source added. Coach Satish Samant was quoted as saying it was not champagne, but fruit beer.
