Art, craft and design space Artisans' is hosting an exhibition of veteran textile and fashion designer Mita Parekh's original creations
Back in 1979, Parekh had hosted a show of 500 block-printed designer salwar kameez sets and sarees in the city and she is now back with a fresh set of textiles which straddle traditional motifs with modern elements to deck the modern Indian woman.

The places she has travelled to have inspired her textiles and on trips, she met with local artisans and visited museums with an aim of reviving age-old indigenous designs that depict the aspects of different regions. Thus, Kashmiri embroidery, Phulkari from Punjab, Kalamkari and Patola from Andhra Pradesh, the mirror work, tie and dye and Batik of Kutch and Gujarat, and the chikan work of Lucknow are all part of her creations.u00a0
Not more than four identical pieces are made of each garment to ensure that designs remain exclusive. Two pieces of the same design are never sold at one place so they do not get common. Parekh has held over 30 exhibitions since 1979 in India, UK and the USA. She has even designed clothes for icons like Nargis Dutt and Indira Gandhi.
