CCTV video reveals how gang engaged staff at counters of stall to divert their attention, while one stole box from under cashier's nose at an exhibition in BKC
Five individuals made a mockery of the lax security during the ‘Stuff Gadget Show 2012’, held at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) on Sunday, and managed to vanish with the cash box containing the day’s collections of Rs 75,000.

The five persons posing as buyers entered the venue and pulled off their heist successfully in less than five minutes, after diverting the attention of the cashier and other staff at a stall. However, the CCTV cameras installed at the venue captured footage of the thieves in action (see pic) and the BKC police have begun an enquiry based on the evidence at hand.u00a0
The high-quality video shows the five thieves entering the venue at 7.37 pm just before the show was to wrap up. The five persons can be seen standing at the show-stall of ‘Hitplay’, a gadget manufacturing company. At 7.40 pm, the group dispersed and four members visited various counters of the same stall and made enquiries, while one individual stood near the cash counter.
At 7.42 pm, the person standing near the cash counter located the cash box, which was below the counter table, and deftly picked it up and walked out. The other four took their cue and followed suit immediately after.
According to Champ Alreja, managing director of ‘Hitplay’, two of the five thieves even bought fancy toilet paper and LED candles from the stalls. “After entering the venue, they were hovering around our stall. They even bought a few things before getting away with the cash box. After this experience, I want to highlight this gang’s modus operandi so that people are made aware of such tricksters in future,” Alreja said.
Alreja added that the thieves got away with the cash box containing Rs 75,000. A case has been registered with the BKC police and investigations are on to identify the five persons captured in the CCTV footage. u00a0
