Since the past few days, an elderly woman has been harassing the officials of Kondhwa police station by calling the control room at odd hours and complaining about cases of murder and robbery in her housing society.

Fed up by her regular planks, the cops enquired with her neighbours about her and realised that the 57-year-old is mentally unstable. Moreover, the residents of society too complained of harassment following which the police detained her and produced her before the Chief Judicial Magistrate. The court ordered police to admit her in Sassoon hospital for the next five days, after which it will take a decision on her.

“Once she called and informed us that someone has been murdered in her neighbour’s house. When the patrolling team reached the spot, it didn’t find anything,” said API Sunil Thopate of Kondhwa police station. He added that the woman called cops again and informed about a theft in her housing society, and this time too it was a prank call.

“We had sent women constables to seek an explanation for her behaviour, but she assaulted them,” Thopate said.

According to some society members, the woman who stays alone is mentally unstable and often wakes up in the night, rings their doorbell, and runs away in her house.

Speaking to MiD DAY, a society member, requesting anonymity, said, “My six-year-old son is scared of the woman, and refuses to go out to play. He’s so scared that if anyone knocks our door, he runs in the bedroom and hides himself.”

According to police, the woman was an engineer and lives alone, and her mental condition may have aggravated due to loneliness.u00a0
