Meow meow queen Shashikala alias Baby Patankar, who was arrested by the Social Service Branch on April 22, was presented in the Mumbai Sessions Court for the extension of her remand yesterday. She alleged that, while in custody, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) from Satara had subjected her to vulgar gestures for “ruining the police’s image”.

When Patankar was produced before Judge U B Hejib, he asked her whether she had any complaint with the police, Patankar said, “Yesterday, (on Monday), DySP Deepak Humbare from Satara visited the cell. He abused me and gestured in a vulgar manner. He also threatened that I would also be beaten up in custody like my son Satish.”

Patankar said that the DySP was angry that Constable Dharmaraj Kalkhoke had been arrested because of her and the image of the police had been ruined. After listening to Patankar, the judge said the Mumbai Police is investigating the matter so officials from no other police divisions should be allowed to interrogate Patankar, especially someone who could behave this way.

He also said, “Making indecent gestures against women is worse than third-degree (torture).” The court extended Patankar’s police custody till May 2 and also gave the Mumbai Police permission to arrest G Samuels, who is currently lodged in Arthur Road Jail, in the drug case. Samuels had allegedly sourced the drug consignments. Patankar’s son, Satish, was also presented in court and remanded in judicial custody.
