Metro bridge slab collapses in Mumbai along the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) phase at Marol.
A major accident occurred at the Andheri-Kurla metro project site on Tuesday evening around 4.09 pm when a slab collapsed leaving one person dead and several others injured.
According to eyewitness at the spot, a major portion of the linkway staircase connecting to the footpath collapsed leaving several workers trapped under the debris.

Santosh Shetty, an eyewitness, who runs a petrol pump around 50 meters from the accident spot, said, “I heard a huge thud and rushed out of my petrol pump to see a huge concrete slab on the ground and few workers were injured, they were screaming for help.”
The mishap, which occured along the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) corridor of the metro, took placeu00a0outside Leela hotel in Andheri's Marol area.
Preliminary inquires have revealed that the construction work has been outsourced to Hindustan Construction Company.
The injured were taken in the ambulance parked near the construction site by the said construction company to Seven Hills and Cooper hospital.
"We deeply regret the accident that has happened at the Airport Station Metro site, which is being constructed by our contractor HCC. Our emergency
response team along with HCC staff is at the site to provide rescue and relief services which the top most and immediate priority for us. We will keep the media and affected parties posted as we obtain more information on the accident," said Vivek Devasthali, spokesperson for Reliance Infrastructure.
Traffic were diverted around the accident area, and traffic towards the international airport and other north-bound traffic were moving slowing.
Some of the injured admitted to Seven Hill hospital, were identified as: Govind Shivprasad Sahu; Sakaram Yadav; Ashok Kumar Rajak; Lal Singh; Kallu. A few other injured workers have been taken to Cooper hospital.
The one person who died at the site has been identified as Umesh Sahu.
