In a meeting to be held today, MHADA may get powers to carry out redevelopment on encroached land and generate housing stock to be released through housing lottery
In an important meeting of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) that is to be held today, the authority is expected to clear a proposal regarding powers to carry out redevelopment work on encroached MHADA land. This will help the housing body generate housing stock that can be released through the affordable housing lottery.

Once the proposal is cleared, it will be sent to the state government for final approval.
At present, the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has the powers to carry out redevelopment of slums even on encroached MHADA land.
“In the past, it has been observed that the redevelopment that took place through SRA took a long time. So, we want to form an independent cell that would carry out redevelopment of slums on MHADA land. This will not only help us in the resettlement and rehabilitation of people staying illegally on MHADA land, but we will also be able to generate housing stock that can be released in the market through lottery,” said a MHADA official.
Rent-A–Flat?
The meeting will also discuss the issue of renting out MHADA flats immediately after winning the lottery. At present, the lottery house winners cannot rent out their houses up to five years from the date of winning.u00a0
