Kicking off the single-window clearance system for all housing related tasks, housing authority aims to minimise waiting lines and bureaucratic delays

Like most citizens who have visited a government office, the chaos and red-tapism that prevails in those offices is well known. But, in a bid to bring simplicity and minimise the confusion, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has now taken a decisive step to curtail time wastage and increase the transparency through a one-window clearance system.

For the public good: With an aim to minimise confusion and hassle
that applicants experience while dealing with house-related queries and
tasks, MHADA has launched the single-window clearance system at its
headquarters in Bandra (East). Representation Pic

They have started an initiative called Mitra (MHADA initiative for transparent and responsive action) through which work related to transfer of names, maps of building and status of pending redevelopment proposals is expected to be swift. Mitra has been planned on the lines of single window system and it was inaugurated by MHADA Vice President Satish Gavai yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion Gavai said, "As the MHADA office is vast and has different departments, it confuses people coming to the office. They find it difficult to locate the department they want to go to. Moreover, they waste precious time. In order to reduce the inconvenience and make the entire process speedy and transparent we started 'Mitra' which will benefit people."

Previously, there have been various instances when people coming to MHADA have had to undergo the daunting task of searching for departments. As MHADA building also has the office of Mumbai Board, marriage registration office and Mumbai Repair and Reconstruction Board, it used to be tricky to search the offices.

"Mitra counter has been opened at the entrance of the main building where the people will have to just go and submit the applications of the information they want to get. Mitra will then forward those applications to the concerned department who will in turn update the application and inform Mitra. The applicants can again visit the counter and check the status of their work," said a MHADA official.

The decision comes after the success of a similar initiative in Pune that was started in the month of April this year.
