The Maharashtra government has decided to allow mill workers to give their MHADA flats on rent, which would enable them to repay their loan, Minister of State for Housing Sachin Ahir said here today.

"We have decided to allow mill workers to give flats allotted to them on rent. This will help them repay their loan in time," Ahir told reporters.

However, he said that this would only be applicable to workers of defunct textile mills here and not to other citizens.

The state government recently allotted low-cost houses to mill workers through a computerised lottery system. As many as 6,925 workers benefitted from it. The mill workers have been continuing their struggle to get flats of their own since 30 years.u00a0
