A minor goof-up for not placing dots of seat numbers during State Eligibity Test (SET) became troublesome for students, as despite clearing the examination they are shown not qualified for which such 2500 students have approached the State Eligibility Test (SET) officials to probe it.
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is state agency that organizes SET examination and is conducted for the post of Assistant Professorship in the states of Maharashtra and Goa. On April 16, 2017 around 69,186 aspirants who are post graduate students from different streams had applied. The results were declared on August 10 and only 2,710 students had cleared.

Kuldeep Ambekar student leader of Janta Dal United said, "The aspirant students were given OMR answer booklet in which students have to mention their seat number and also on the same marklist they have to circle as per the seat number. During examination around 2500 students messed up while circling their marklist. Their hall ticket number is same, but only while circling such number they have made mistake. They have cleared the examination, but still they are not shown as qualified. While few marklists which are out, showcased as 'Zero' after clearing all papers. Such errors can take place with any person as they are human and not God. So we requested the Vice Chancellor and SET dignitaries to look into the matter, but we haven’t got any fruitful response. They told us to approach High Court. How can a student afford to knock the door of High court without any single penny. If our demands are not fulfilled, we will be sitting on agitation at university campus."
He added, "Now Government has declared such examination will be conducted once a year and then aspirants have to wait for another year to clear the examination." On the otherhand a superior official who spoke to Mid-Day on condition of anonymity said, "These demonstrations and awareness are given to students while they are entering into examination hall and also instructions are mentioned on the hall ticket."
Arvind Shailigram registrar and member secretary (SET) said, "Such aspirant students have approached us and we have sought 15 days time from them to look into the matter."
