When Mira Nair, Shyam Benegal, Zoya Akhtar, Sriram Raghavan, Nagesh Kukunoor, Homi Adajania and Imtiaz Ali announced a joint project, it was instantly labelled a special film. Shor Se Shuruat is just that.

The 130-minute screen anthology made by assistants of these noted filmmakers, with a bit of mentoring by them, will have a red carpet premiere at MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Images) this year. The common theme binding the movies is Noise.

Mira Nair has mentored Rahul Chittella for his film Aazad, a tale about a father-son duo. Zoya Akhtar has guided Amira Bhargava for her film Aamer that deals with the pangs and joy of a child who moves away from her world of silence.
"She makes Mumbai look as real as it gets. Amira is empathetic, bright, dedicated and has a great aesthetic sense," Zoya says.

Nagesh Kukunoor admits that he helped his protégé Supriya Sharma only at the scripting stage. "Dhvani was about a death row inmate's last wish. I advised her to chop off most of the dialogues. In order to serve the purpose of what one was trying to do with the lack of sound, any kind of dialogues would have disturbed the narrative," he says.
Annie Zaidi, better known for her book Gulaab, put together Decibel under the direction of Sriram Raghavan. Talking about the futuristic film, Sriram says, "It's set a few decades in the future and makes you think about noise in a different light. We discussed the nuances but essentially, it's her baby."

Imtiaz Ali, whose ex-wife Preety Ali is among the co-producers, bonded with his mentee Satish Raj more emotionally. "I've know him for 15 years, ever since he was in school with my youngest brother. I've seen him grown up and, soon after, he started working with me. He has made a unique movie that makes me proud," says Imtiaz.
Homi Adjania has helped Arunima Sharma helm the friendship tale Yellow Tin Cup Phone while Shyam Benegal has guided Pratik Kothari with his satire Hello Hello, that is a takes on the commercial times we live in.

Though the film begins its journey at MAMI, Preety believes it is just the beginning. She says, "We are releasing the film theatrically on December 2."
