The Bharat bandh called by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance today to protest against rise in fuel prices and FDI in retail met with a mixed response
In Maharashtra the bandh called by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) evoked little response owing to ongoing Ganesh festival.
The Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have kept away from the day-long bandh due to the festival.

BJP leaders including Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council Vinod Tawade will take to the streets later in the day to oppose Government's new reform measures.u00a0
In Delhi, the bandh call went largely unheeded. Local commuter buses and metro rail services functioned normally.
Autorickshaws also seemed to ply normally on the capital's streets. Some private schools had declared a holiday to avoid inconvenience to children.
In Punjab and Haryana, the shutdown garnered a mixed response.
Shiv Sena members were on the streets, forcing shops to down shutters in Amritsar city. Shops in several areas of the Sikh holy city remained shut.
The bandh called by the opposition to protest hike in diesel price, cap on subsidised LPG cylinders and FDI in retail hit the railways and road traffic in Bihar inconveniencing millions of people.
Life virtually came to a standstill in West Bengal due to the Bharatiya Janata Party's shutdown call and the Left-sponsored general strike in the state.
