Divisional police officer Swati Bhor of Ambejogai taluka said, “Dr Munde has been practising since 1978 and it is believed that he conducted over 5,000 sex determination and selection tests which resulted in illegal abortions.”

Activist Varsha Deshpande of Lek Laadki Adbhiyan claims the figures are even more shocking than the police assume. u00a0“Dr Munde and his wife are into this business of female foeticide for almost 20 years now and he used to abort around 40 women a day, so the numbers will be somewhere in lakhs. There many more such Mundes in Beed, which has resulted in the poor sex ratio in the state,” Deshpande said.u00a0
