Here comes a rom-com which refreshingly is targeted at men. The good thing about this film is its contemporariness. There is a male friend who loves cooking and baking, there is a mother who likes to talk in social networking lingo (xoxo, imho et al), there is a successful career woman who gets a break up consultant to make a power point presentation on why she wants to dump her man and there is a girl who doesn’t hesitate to call first after the first date breaking the stereotype. Original? Yes. Interesting? Yes. Great? Not really.

Amit Sahni (Vir Das) can’t seem to find the girlfriend of his choice and he makes a list of the qualities he wants in a girl of his dreams. But then he meets adventurous, fun loving Mala (Vega Tamotia), who is nothing that he wished for but he still falls head over heels in love with her. The twist comes when after committing to Mala, he stumbled upon the woman of his dreams, Devika (Anindita Nayar), who matches everything that’s on the list. At a time when choices seem too many, thus making commitment dicey, 'Amit Sahni Ki List' is bang on. The rather intelligent script highlights the typical commitment phobic male dilemma of ‘what if a better model comes along?’
While one must give credit to debut director Ajay Bhuyan’s choice of script, the execution could have been better. For one, Vir Das has a heavy responsibility as he is in almost every frame of the film. Unfortunately, he doesn’t really live up to that as his performance just seemed like an extension of his stand-up comic act on stage. Poker faced humour is fine, but a good performance requires a lot more than that. Vega Tamotia as a free spirited today’s girl is good, and so is Kavi Shastri who plays Amit’s friend.
However, for all its today’s feel, the climax is jaded and predictable.
