MSSA Badminton: Dhruv crushes Piroze to enter quarters

Top seed Dhruv Patel of Udayachal High School (Vikroli) stormed into the quarter-finals of the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA)-organised under-16 boys badminton tournament after defeating Piroze Katrak of St Xavier's Boys Academy (Churchgate) 21-12 at Cricket Club of India yesterday. In a match that lasted 20 minutes, unseeded Piroze gave a tough fight to Dhruv till the half-way mark. However, when the sides were changed after 11-9, Piroze found the going tough and managed to add only three more points to his overall score. Dhruv capitalised on the momentum after the break and ensured a comfortable victory.

Dhruv took a risk by playing two matches on the same day as his contest with Piroze was clashing with his examinations on Thursday. "I requested the organisers to schedule my match with Piroze today since it was clashing with my exams. Piroze and I mutually decided to play today," said Dhruv. Meanwhile, in a girls' U-16 match, Mahak Agarwal of Bright Start Fellowship International School (Tardeo) edged past Avana Patel of Dhirubhai Ambani International School (Bandra) 15-13 to enter Round Four.
