Srinagar: The mortal remains of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed reached his official residence at Gupkar Road in Srinagar on Thursday afternoon to enable the people to pay homage and have a last glimpse of the departed leader.

According to reports, he is likely to be buried at his ancestral place in south Kashmir¿s Bijbehara town. The Centre has also decided to accord a state funeral to the departed leader.


The body was flown from Delhi to Srinagar in a special aircraft. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Sayeed¿s family members, including his elder daughter and ruling People¿s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, also reached Srinagar.

The 79-year-old leader was admitted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi for the past 15 days and was on ventilator, he breathed his last on Thursday morning.

The Jammu and Kashmir government announced a holiday on Thursday and a seven-day mourning as a mark of respect to the departed Chief Minister.

An official order in this regard said that the flags atop buildings of constitutional authorities and state government establishments will fly at half-mast during the mourning period.

The national flag will fly at half mast on Thursday in the capitals of all states and Union Territories as a mark of respect to Sayeed.
