In what may best be seen as a means to come to terms with her sudden demise, industry folk began to pay tributes to Sridevi soon after news of her death on February 24 trickled in. Now, PVR cinemas has decided to pay tribute to the veteran by showcasing her popular films across their branches all day today.
On schedule the event titled The Sridevi Legacy — also a celebration of Women's Day — is Chandni (1989), Chaalbaaz (1989), Lamhe (1991), English Vinglish (2012) and Mom (2017), with select shows catering exclusively to women. The actor's husband Boney Kapoor says, "I am honoured that someone has taken this initiative. It feels good to know that some of Sridevi's best works is going to be celebrated. I can't think of a better way to honour her. It will be a treat for her fans to revisit her films."
Gautam Dutta, CEO, PVR Ltd believes that there can be no better way to celebrate womanhood than by honouring the industry's first female superstar. "The festival is an extension of our special weekly property dedicated to women. We wish to contribute towards women empowerment."
