While enjoying the sea breeze with a friend, on a day off from work, a 20-year-old youth drowned after he slipped and fell into the water at Bandstand. The deceased, identified as Sohail Shaikh, a resident of Kurla, was walking on the rocks close to the sea when the incident took place.

Around 5pm on Sunday, Shaikh and his friend Sohail were walking on the rocks at Bandra Fort, when suddenly a huge wave hit them and they slipped into the water. Though his friend managed to swim to safety, Shaikh drowned. On spotting the incident, some of the passersby alerted the Bandra police and fire brigade. Though Shaikh was pulled out of the water and rushed to the Bhabha hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Speaking to mid-day, a police officer said, "The deceased is originally from Beed district and his family lives in Surat. A few months ago he came to Mumbai and took up a job at a Kurla-based company. His family members were immediately informed about the incident. His uncle visited the hospital to claim the body."
