Four gangmen were today killed when they were run over by a local train between suburban Kurla and Vidyavihar stations.

"As per the primary information received, the four contract labourers of railway were crossing the tracks and met with an accident between Kurla and Vidyavihar by a CST bound train, " said R Ambure, DCP (Central), GRP.

It was a Karjat-CST local train. Officials said that all four were dead when they were brought to Rajawadi hospital.

An inquiry would be constituted to ascertain the reason behind the mishap. This comes on a day when the CR began its 72 hours block on the Harbour line. MP Kirit Somaiya also reached the hospital to check on the visiting whose name are Gokul (18), Shravn (18), Nana (27) and Kashinath (19).

"It seems the trackmen may not have noticed the moving train as it was dark," said an official, adding that more details about the incident were awaited.

Earlier on November 3, 2013, four railway gangmen, carrying out maintenance work on the tracks, were killed after being hit by a speeding Kolhapur-bound long distance train between Thakurli and Kalyan railway stations in the neighbouring Thane district.
