According to the Mahatma Phule police in Kalyan, Smita Pramod Ingle had left her workplace, Ace Software Solutions India Pvt Ltd, SEEPZ, Andheri (East) and reached Kalyan around 9 pm.

Her husband, Dr Pramod Ingle, said, “She walked from Kalyan station towards Taal restaurant and took a shared auto for Chikan Ghar in Kalyan, where we stay. After she had covered some distance, two people on a bike rode toward the auto and suddenly pulled at her handbag. Due to the abrupt yank, she fell from the auto.

“The incident took place in a busy but small lane, from where the bikers managed to flee with the bag.” Smita was rushed to the nearby Godbole Hospital. “She has suffered multiple fractures on her right wrist and arm, and has also wounded her leg.

Fortunately, she did not sustain any injuries on her head,” said Pramod. The family has lodged a first investigation report (FIR) with the Mahatma Phule police station.

“We have registered an FIR and are going through CCTV footage to see if any camera has captured the accused. We are also trying to find somebody who saw the accused and can describe him. There is an Axis bank ATM nearby and we are enquiring with the watchman to see if he has seen them,” said Dinesh Katke, senior police inspector of Mahatma Phule police station.
He added, “The woman was talking on her phone, so it was saved, but her purse, which has around Rs 2,500 was snatched.”
