Mumbai: BMC demolishes illegal eateries in Vakola

The demolition drive in Bandra east has only become wider. After demolishing illegal floors of shanties, the local ward office on Wednesday undertook a drive against illegal construction by restaurants in the Vakola area.



Portions of popular local eateries including Vihar, Janata, Sudarshan, and City Bakery, apart from 40 other small eateries were struck down. The BMC mainly demolished permanent sheds in case of the big hotels, make shift extensions constructed in the open spaces outside eateries. The concrete and tarpaulin sheets were occupying the footpath, inconveniencing commuters. The drive met with some resistance in Vakola but it was thwarted by the police personnel present there.


Wednesday's demolition drive was part of a two days long drive being carried out in different parts of the H east ward. Further action will be undertaken in the Kalina area tomorrow.

The H east ward will demolish the illegal parts of three other hotels in Kalina on Thursday including Nityanand, Potoba, and Swagat. Besides officials confirmed that they will also target 40 to 45 small illegal eateries in Kalina.
