The Sewri police had requested that cameras be installed at the site of the debris to prevent valuables and belongings from being stolen. One rescue worker has already been arrested for stealing valuables.

A senior official from the Sewri police station said, “Though no major incident has happened since then, occasionally, a drug addict or a drunkard tried to steal from the debris. As there was no one to register an FIR, we had to let them go.”

SS Kabara, ward officer, E ward, said, “We have installed 12 CCTV cameras. As the debris contains valuables, we could not risk it being unguarded. We have deployed BMC staff to look for valuables and documents, which will be subsequently handed over to police officials. The footage will be monitored by the BMC officials as well.”
