The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to fine a developer Rs 70 crore and will also confiscate his deposit worth Rs 1.5 crore for selling TDR illegally. The fine will be levied regarding a property in Worli.

According to the BMC, the developer was supposed to demolish the existing transit camps in Worli's Gomata Nagar and build 9 buildings there. In lieu of that, he was supposed to give the civic body a TDR of 2 lakh sq feet but instead of doing so, he sold off the TDR illegally. MNS corporator Santosh Dhuri has been pursuing this matter and had taken up a point of order in Wednesday's Improvement Committee meeting.

Dhuri alleged that the BMC had suffered losses worth Rs 400 crore in the matter while no action had been taken against the builder. He also alleged that the erstwhile transit camps were declared dilapidated when they were not. He has demanded a FIR against the builder.

In response, deputy municipal commissioner (Improvements) Chandrasekhar Chore said that the builder will be fined and his deposit will be confiscated. Further probe will be done
