Mumbai: Class VIII, XI pass were running clinics as doctors in Eastern suburbs

Coming down heavily on the bogus doctors, the Mumbai police raided three places in eastern suburbs and arrested three fake doctors who had been practicing in the city without having any medical degree. Shockingly, the arrested three are qualified only till class VII, XI and HSC.

The bogus doctors were arrested from Kurla, Mankhurd and Govandi areas respectively. Sources told mid-day that the police suspects few doctors are hand-in-glove with the culprits as they allowed the quacks to misuse their medical degrees, against hefty commission, to flourish their business.

According to the police, on November 8 one Pradeep Jadhav, 25 had died due to wrongful medical treatment and it was disclosed later that the doctor Jadhav who was treating him was a bogus one. Following the incident, a criminal case was registered at the Deonar police station.

The incident was an eye-opener for the police and they decided to take massive action on such bogus doctors. Zone VI DCP Shahaji Umap formed special teams which gathered information on such people. On the basis of the information, four police teams on Thursday raided places in Nehru Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Mankhurd and Govandi. The police also took help from medical officers of the concerned departments of BMC.

In the raids, Zaheer Shaikh, 36, Farman Ali Beig, 21 and Asif Shaikh, 47 were arrested. They are class 12, class 11 and class 8 passed, respectively, but police have recovered from them degrees like BMS, BUMS, BSc, MA and BHMS. Police said that Zaheer and Asif were running four-four clinics in different parts of the eastern suburbs. Since few degrees recovered from the accused are original, police suspect that the original owner doctors of these degrees are hand-in-glove with the accused.

“During the raids we have seized several certificates and degrees. We would be checking the authenticity of them from the university and college they are issued from. If any doctor’s involvement is revealed during investigation then they would also face lawful action from police,” said DCP Umap.
