According to police, the cleaner of the truck -- Raju (30) -- was the mastermind of the plan. He, along with his friends Nafiz Zakir and Pappu, contacted Amir, a history sheeter, to execute the robbery when the driver was away.u00a0

PSI Santosh Kadam from Wadala TT police station said, “As Amir has good contacts with other criminals, the trio contacted him first. Later, they got in touch with one Ajit More, who took them to a place between Kalyan and Mumbra on July 23.” After they reached the spot, More gave each of them Rs 20,000 and asked them to park the truck and leave. He promised to pay them more money after the sale of iron rods.

“More then got the truck broken into four pieces and tried to sell it as scrap. The other reason to break the truck was to avoid detection by police,” said Kadam.

Meanwhile, the police had managed to arrest Raju by tracing his mobile number. After Raju’s arrest, the others were nabbed too. However, More is still on the run.

During interrogation, the accused revealed the spot where they had left the truck. Soon a team was despatched to the place from where police recovered goods worth Rs 19.5 lakh.

The accused have been booked under Sections 381 and 34 of the IPC. They were produced before the Bhoiwada court that remanded them to police custody.u00a0
