A 10-year-old girl hit and pushed her neighbour, a 70-year-old man while he was attempting to rape her in his Girgaon flat. The accused lured the girl to his home on pretext of giving her a chocolate. He has been arrested by the VP road police and remanded in police custody.

The accused, Chandramooni Sharma has been working for a private security firm for the last 25 years. The incident took place on June 3 in the flat Sharma shares with his wife and two children. The girl is a resident of the same building. According to police officials, Sharma was alone at home in the afternoon, while the girl was playing with her friends in the building. Sharma called the girl to his house and locked the door from inside. A police officer said, “The accused allegedly called the girl on pretext of giving her some chocolates. After taking her inside his house, he started touching her inappropriately and forced himself on the girl.”
The escape
The officer added, “The girl tried to free herself. She pushed Sharma and hit him on the back. She immediately ran to open the door and managed to escape. She went to her home and narrated the ordeal to her parents.”
The family of the girl later approached the VP Road police station and an FIR was filed on the same day. Sharma was picked up by cops from his house and later produced in court. He has been charged under the molestation Sections Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) of the IPC and stringent sections of the POSCO Act.
Sharma was produced in court on June 4 and remanded to police custody till June 10.
