MUMBAI CRIME: Antiques store worker nabbed for molesting Belgian tourist

After a Belgium national was molested at an antiques and home decor store in Colaba on Saturday, the Colaba police arrested the accused and booked him for molestation.

According to the police, the Belgian woman, who was in the city on a tour, had gone to the antiques store on Colaba Causeway to exchange old jewellery. And the accused, identified as Niraz Ahmed Abdul Ahmed Mihir (32), who works at the store as a salesman, allegedly touched her inappropriately.

“We have registered an offence under section 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and arrested the accused,” said Krushna Prakash, additional commissioner of police (south region).

The police said the victim approached them after two days and registered an offence. Soon after, Mihir was arrested and produced in a local court. He was later released on a bail on R15,000. When the police went to arrest the accused he fainted after hearing the news.
