The Mumbai police are looking for a gang that cheats students with the lure of employment. Darshna Variya, 24, a Goregaon resident, unfortunately, came in contact with this gang who conned her of Rs.1 lakh. On June 6, she had got a call from someone who said her name was Kanika and said she was calling on behalf of a placement company called Info-tech Future Creators. The woman told Variya she already had a job waiting for her at Kotak Mahindra Bank for which she would have to send her results and certificates through email.

In the next few days, they asked Variya to pay Rs.2,850 as registration fee and Rs.7,500 for a procedure to verify her documents. As she needed the job, she paid the amount and got another call the next day saying one Sandip Sharma would assist her. But Sharma gave her an account number and told her to deposit Rs.56,000 for a Banking and Operation Management diploma and R30,000 as facilitation fees. "But, right after that the gang members disappeared," she told the police. A Goregaon police officer said, "There is a gang that looks for job aspirants and cheats them. Probe is underway."
