Cops suspect accused was under influence of some drug when he committed the crime in the wee hours of yesterday; he groped and molested the survivor when they were alone in the lift
The Bhoiwada Police have arrested a ward boy from KEM hospital for groping and molesting a 28-year-old doctor inside the hospital’s lift. The incident took place around 12.30 am yesterday and the accused, who is believed to have been under the influence of some drug, was nabbed and handed over to the police immediately.

According to the Bhoiwada Police, Popat Bhovare, a resident of Ghatkopar, has been working with the hospital since 15 years. “Bhovare had had just reported to work and was heading to an upper floor through the hospital’s common lift, which had five other people, including the survivor in it.
Four people got off on the first floor, leaving just the accused and the survivor behind, and Bhovare took advantage of the situation and molested her,” said an officer. Immediately after the lift doors closed, Bhovare allegedly put his palm over the doctor’s mouth to stop her from screaming, and started touching and kissing her private parts.
Due to the force with which he had pushed the doctor against the lift, it halted between the second and third floors for a while. “As soon as the doors opened on the third floor, the accused tried to flee and the survivor gave chase, screaming for help.
Bhovare was nabbed near the staircase by the relatives of some patients and when he was taken to the security room, they realised that he worked as a ward boy at the same hospital,” the officer added.
Inspector Kailash Chavan from the Bhoiwada Police said, “We suspect the accused was under the influence of some drug. We had sent him for a medical test and the report is expected tomorrow (Friday).”
Bhovare has been booked under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced in Bhoiwada court yesterday and remanded in police custody.
