A 27-year-old Navy Lieutenant, Vinav Sharma, was robbed at gunpoint near Saifee Hospital on Saturday night. On February 22, Sharma had gone for a movie at Metro Cinema. At around 8.10 pm after the movie got over, Sharma came out and proceeded towards his car.

"When I came out, a person in his 30s in a white T-shirt and blue jeans approached me, asking if I was in the Indian Navy," Sharma said. "I said yes and enquired why he asked. He said he wanted to join the navy, too, and then asked if I could drop him midway in my car, to which I agreed."

After they both sat in the car, the accused asked Sharma to take the car from SK Patil Garden. As soon as the car reached the garden, the accused brandished his gun and told Sharma to hand over all his valuables. "The accused took Sharma's wallet which had all his IDs including his Navy card and a gold chain. Later he asked Sharma to pay Rs 50,000 that if Sharma wanted his wallet again," an officer with Azad Maidan police station said.

Sharma then took the car to Saifee Hospital and withdrew Rs 40,000. "When Sharma returned to his car, the gunman started demanding more. Finding the hospital area crowded, Sharma shouted 'chor chor', causing the accused to flee. "A case has been registered against an unknown person," an officer said on condition of anonymity.

ACP (Azad Maidan division) Santosh Walake said, "We have registered an offence against an unknown person. We are trying various modes to get more information about the incident and accused. The complainant has gone on the ship for a couple of days, we will get more information from him once he is back."
