The accused Sameer Rohikar had been dating a 32-year-old Tardeo-based woman since 10 years but the victim, Prasad Prakash Mandavkar, had begun interfering in their relationship since a year.
Police inspector Sanjay Nikumbe, Crime Branch Unit 3, said, “Mandavkar used to follow the woman and she had even turned him away him. When he didn’t listen, Rohikar decided to take matters in his own hands.”
He sought the help of his two friends Rohit Bangera, 19, and George Fernandis, 34, and the trio called Mandavkar near Chheda Nagar in Chembur and offered him a spiked drink.
“When Mandavkar fell unconscious, they stabbed him with a chopper and took his wallet and documents to hide his identify and mislead the cops,” added Nikumbe. On January 8, Tilak Nagar police officials found Mandavkar’s body near Tilak Nagar Bridge after his family members had registered a missing case with Tardeo police station.
“On taking statements of his close friends, the role of these three accused came to light,” said Nikumbe.
The three accused have been booked under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
