D Y Patil, former governor of Bihar and Tripura and imminent educationist of the country was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday evening due to chest pain complaints.

The 80-year-old Padmashree awardee was apparently air lifted from Pune after he started experiencing discomfort. Treating cardiologists from the hospital confirmed that he is stable and will undergo angioplasty on Thursday.

While the sources confirmed that he was flown inside the city with the help of an air ambulance in the evening at around 7.30pm, it couldn't be confirmed if Patil suffered a heart attack or it was any other cardiac related complication.

Talking mid-day his son Dr Vijay Patil confirmed the news and said that the family grew anxious since he complained of chest pain. When asked if he suffered a heart attack, Vijay said, "He was rushed to the hospital as he experienced discomfort. It wasn't anything major, but anginal pain but you do get anxious with anything to do with heart."

Treating doctors from Lilavati said that he will undergo routine angiography on Thursday. "He is stable right now. As a protocol I won't be able to share more details," said the treating senior cardiologist from Lilavati Hospital.
