Saeed Jaffrey and Masoom
Among the many movies that late actor Saeed Jaffrey featured in, the classic Masoom comes to mind, where the vibrant party ghazal number ‘Huzur Iss Kadar Bhi’ was picturised on him.

Masoom producer Devi Dutt shared with this diarist, “The choreographer couldn’t make it to the shoot. But both Naseeruddin Shah and Saeed managed to sway and swing, and pull it off so gracefully.

In my next movie, Bhavna, Jaffrey had no hang-ups in accepting a villainous role. Known for his punctuality and sterling histrionics, the affable actor had this fetish for chewing paan and humming retro tunes. We will miss him.”

BEST days in November

The Bombay electric Supply and Tramways Company (BeST) registered in London, was actually a subsidiary of the British electric Traction Company, which had been trying to bring electricity to Mumbai since 1903.

Two years later, it secured the necessary license in 1905, to take over the right of supplying electricity to Mumbai. In November 1905, BeST set up a generating station at Wadi Bunder, and thus began its journey to provide power for the city’s iconic tramways.
