Byculla gets arty
Once upon a time, Byculla was the hottest location in Bombay - with its mansions, wide roads and gymkhanas to serve the rich and the famous. Now, the area is witnessing a revival of sorts, at least going by the art and cultural events finding their way to Byculla. Art 35 Carnival is back with its third edition, and this time, expect more pop-ups that will offer food, fashion, and art that will take over its spacious venue between Rani Baug and Voltas House. The festival will feature works by 35 Indian artists, under the age of 35, who will showcase fine examples of affordable art; there will be theatre, photography and dance workshops as well as tons of activities where kids can have a blast.

Puri nostalgia, fine dine style
Last Saturday, we rolled out of bed and rolled into Soda Bottle Openerwala (SBOW) at High Street Phoenix to try out the new breakfast menu rolled out at all outlets.
Pancham Puri Bhaji
Apart from our dear bun maska and chai, we dug into Parsi style poro omelette, laden with onions, chillies and herbs. But the surprise was to find the Bambaiya puri bhaji christened as the Pancham Puri Bhaji.

Now, if you are a millennial who doesn't know the gems of Mumbai eating, Pancham Puriwala is the most famous puri-bhaji café that started as a humble diner in 1848. Having had their puri bhaji, we must say the one on this menu was just as delicious.
Movies come to the Opera House
The city has yet another venue for movie screenings and we are not complaining. Known for hosting live performances so far, the magnificently restored Royal Opera House now promises to be the new go-to hub for film buffs. Along with a film curation platform, the programming team of the music venue The Quarter, recently launched at the opera house, will look into the curatorial process.
Continuing with the theme of music, the first film to be screened this Saturday is Woodstock, a documentary chronicling the legendary 1969 music festival held in upstate New York, in which Jimi Hendrix fans can expect to relive the heydays of the iconic rock guitarist. But music, we hear, isn't the only genre to make it to programming. The team eventually plans to diversify.
An artist hits a half-century
Vivan Sundaram has made a name for himself as one of India's leading artists, with a body of work built over 50 years. Apart from working as an artist, he has also worked as an editor and curator. Now, an exhibition seeks to trace his journey over this time period, showcasing some of his earliest works.
The exhibition has been curated by Roobina Karode and Sundaram himself (who, incidentally, is also celebrated painter Amrita Sher-Gil's nephew). But you'll have to make a trip to the capital to attend this one, since it's on at Nehru Museum in New Delhi from February 8 to June 30.
Potterwaalis in Dilli
This is one time of the year when this diarist wished the most to be in national capital. No, not because we'd like to 'chill' in its famed winters. It's the Delhi Book Fair that's got us all jealous. And it doesn't help when our publisher friends plaster social media with gazillion updates.

(we lost count, actually) where two smug Potterheads couldn't believe their luck when they ended up bagging a few cool prizes after they had dropped by to get their hands on copies of the fabulously illustrated Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Bloomsbury).
